"The hydrogen is on the rise! During the H2 MEET 2023, the world’s largest hydrogen expo, companies, governments, and experts shared their insights about the hydrogen ecosystem.
The event reaffirmed that hydrogen is recognized as a viable solution to the world’s clean energy problem. From production to storage and utilization, many companies presented their own unique perspectives and technologies on their journey towards a hydrogen society.
Hyundai’s booth demonstrated waste to energy hydrogen production, storage, and mobile recharging applications that are already in existence and currently available in Korea. This real-world application is a small start to our vision of a hydrogen society where waste is no longer just a waste, but a valuable source of hydrogen value chain.

Hyundai in H2 Meet 2023
Starting in 1998, Hyundai officially began its journey with hydrogen. Hyundai's fuel cell system has evolved through several generations, with each one marking its own significance, and making improvements from the last. This progress at Hyundai is still ongoing and has never stopped.
Back in 2000, Hyundai introduced its first hydrogen-powered vehicle prototype, the Santa Fe FCEV, featuring the world premiere 350-bar high-pressure hydrogen storage tank. With its excellent performance without carbon emissions, together with reduced noise and vibration, it won the best FCV award at the Michelin Challenge Bibendum in 2001. The following year, it completed the Fuel Cell Road Rally in California alongside top carmakers, showcasing its advanced technologies in real-world driving scenarios.
Today, Hyundai's Fuel Cell system legacy continues with the HTWO brand.

Austria's largest regional transport operator, Wiener Linien, has been operating a Hyundai ELEC CITY Fuel Cell bus since last year. With just 10 to 15 minutes of refueling time, this hydrogen-powered bus easily travels the mountainous roads of Vienna for up to 550 kilometers on a single charge. As part of the Austrian government's HyBus Project, another ELEC CITY Fuel Cell is currently operating in the Graz region.
